Frontline - Part II
So last time we were able to get through the first verse of this song by Pillar. We talked about the call to arms. To fight beside our lord. We talked about how the enemy attacks those who work for the kingdom. We talked about being in the shadow of death and standing tall because the lord is with us. So, let’s dive into the next verse.
A lot of this
verse feels the same, “When it’s over we can say well done.” This one’s easy. Matthew 25:21. Jesus is telling a story to his disciples. So, to set this up we will go
back to Chapter 24 for a second. The disciples ask Jesus to explain the “second
coming” to them. He tells then that (paraphrasing here) the world is going to
get worse. The wicked will rule and depravity will reign. People will be deceived
by false prophets, and many will fall away. Christians will be hated and
killed. Then, like a thief in the night, the lord will return to claim his
people.
So in Chapter 25, Jesus
tells them a couple stories. Basically, the question being posed in these
stories is, “What are you doing until he comes back?” Are you pursuing him, are
you preparing for his return? Like a good servant, are you making sure his home
is ready for his return? Or are you engaging in the depravity while you can.
The stories all end the same way. The master comes home and blesses the
faithful servant who worked diligently, even in the lord absence, and He curses
the fool who took advantage of the time to sin. The last story is where we get
the line, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
For those of
us who fight against the increasing destruction of morality today, this is the
goal. To get to his side and have him say, “Well done.”
So, after that
long explanation, the first sentence of this verse is hope. It is a goal. It is
so well written, because we need to know what we are fighting for. You don’t go
to battle hoping that something works out. You go because of that something.
That is our war cry, our hope. That the king would find us serving him when he
returns.
So, there you
go. Part II covered one sentence. Hmmm… this series may take a while, but it is
my entire reason for pressing on every day. I will be ready when he returns.
Are you coming with me?
