Fate of the Accuser

I bowed before my King and my Judge. Shame covered me. The Accuser stood beside me, a cruel smile on his lips and a finger pointed at me.

“I have defiled that which you love. I have won and she stands accused. Who here can deny it? Who here would dare deny what she has done?” He looked to those assembled. “All here know her sins. All here are aware of how I put her shame on display. What can be done for her? Can she, even she, be redeemed?”

The King stood from His throne and walked to where I remained with my face to floor, crying out my pain and my shame. He looked to the one who had brought me forward.

“You think that you have brought her low and made her and I foolish. But it is you who has done the foolish thing. If you had done this to the child of any other, what could they have done to you? But you have done this horrid thing to the daughter of the king. You bring to the judge his beloved and accuse her. How foolish are you? For I love her above all else and will punish you greatly for what you have done. The Judge knows her better than any other and knows her heart. He has claimed her for himself, and so what you have done does not accuse her, but instead it condemns you. You think you have made her low, but I will make her great. You think that you have turned her robes to black, but she has been redeemed already!”

Turning to my accuser, my father displayed power in his presence. “It is YOU who will be made low. I will raise her up and make her great again, no, greater than before. I will make her light outshine any darkness that you have. You will be forgotten and made lower than dirt. You will not even be able to raise your head to look at her. You, agent of lies, defiler and deceiver, will walk this place no more, and you will never be able to look on the face of the one I love nor will you remember it. Return to your father now and be damned with him. My child remains my own, and the beloved of the Judge remains ever loved.”

The assembly shouted my accuser out of the room. The Judge, my beloved, rushed toward him and shut the doors behind him. He then turned to me and reached out. Taking hold of the dark shroud he spoke, “I declare you innocent!” and as a dark curtain is pulled away to reveal the light of the day, so it was as he uncovered me.

He took my hand and had me stand. I glowed with the light of my father and beamed in the love of my heart’s desire. Robes of gold and white adorned me, and on my head he placed a crown.

“I declare you a princess! Daughter of the King! Beloved of the Ruler of the Earth and Judge of mankind!” The assembly shouted in agreement. He then drew nearer and spoke so that only I could hear, “I declare you my beloved. And who can challenge what I have declared to be true?”
