If I am Wrong, and I am Never Wrong

I have recently picked up on something. People really struggle with being told that they have done something wrong. Immediately, they take offence. How can we then offer help as God instructed? (Galatians 6:1) How can God correct people? (Revelation 3:19, Psalm 94: 12)

I have talked to people about things that this world now accepts, but God still says are wrong. The biggest reason that I find for people’s inability to grasp His truth on the matter is because they feel that who they are is being attacked. They cannot accept correction because they feel that if they are wrong, they will have to confront the fact that they are NOT perfect and then, therefore, in need of a savior.

People, we are not doing the world any favors by saying that everything is okay no matter what you choose, even though we know that God says otherwise. And, we are not doing anyone any good when we condemn THEM. Find the proper proportions here. Understand that what God is saying is that the action is wrong, not that the individual is unable to be saved. If you feel like you need to offer some truth or correction, do so with the proper motivation and love behind it.

However, if you find yourself unable to accept correction, this is perhaps even more of a problem. People who can’t be corrected never learn. They stay in the same self-sabotaging cycle and keep wondering why they can’t seem to make different decision. They are never willing to listen to what anyone else has to say.

I’m allowed to pick on these people, because I used to be one of them. I could not take it when someone told me that what I was doing was wrong. Now granted, a lot of times people were doing what I warned about before and condemning me instead of my actions. But I kept making the same mistakes. I finally got to a place with God where He was able to start correcting me. I would still hurt, but He let me cry it out. He reassured me that he loved me, and then something crazy happened. I learned! I made different decisions! I learned to love it because the experience was one of love and teaching.

“Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid” (Proverbs 12:1) Well that sums it up people. We have people walking in ignorance, and they will not be told otherwise. If you are too sensitive, I suggest that you seek God and ask him to remove what is between you and his correction. He will do so, and you will be free to learn without feeling condemned.
