The World's Most Boring Story

Once upon a time there lived a beautiful princess. She never did anything amazing, nor did she care to. She never lived under the cruel power of another, nor was she sought after by princes or kings because, well, she never had need of them. There was never a dragon to slay or a wicked witch to defeat. Nothing happened and she lived bored ever after. The End.

Now I have to be honest, it was painful and difficult just to write that. There’s no story there. Not worth reading anyways. It’s so boring. No lessons learned. No good versus evil. No nothing! Who wants to read that? Worse yet, who wants to live that?

If you’re like me, it feels like we work so hard just to get life to a place where everything is settled and perfect. But wait, where does that place exist again? It doesn’t! We keep striving to arrive but get mad when the journey gets in the way. We read and dream of adventure but get so frustrated with God when we have to suddenly work to achieve a goal. It’s as though we expected him to just hand us everything once we came to him.

Jesus warned things would not be easy (John 16:33). It’s a fight (Ephesians 6:10-13). It’s a journey (Luke 9:23). Our lives are supposed to look more like a fairy tale or an adventure not a sitcom. We have struggles and, with him and through him, we overcome.

There have been a lot of people who have questioned our decisions. Four kids? Really? You’re going to put your money towards family activities instead of improving your house? You spent time as a couple instead of doing laundry?

I know we’re weird, but I never really understood the concept of working doing something I hated for forty plus years, just so I could a have comfortable, last twenty or so years. I don’t want to die old and comfortable in my bed! I want to die doing what I was meant to do. I want to give my last breath to the cause that God has put before me. I don’t worry about my yard very much, just ask my neighbors, but I do care about spending time with my kids while I have that time. I don’t worry about whether or not my kitchen gets cleaned, but I do care about writing the things that God has taught me in order to encourage others.

Guys, if you are in a place where you feel like you are just hanging on for dear life, and you aren’t making anything happen on your own, let me say this. GREAT! Stop trying to fix it and make things happen on your own. Turn to God and say, “Where do you want me? What do you want me to do?” I guarantee he has a plan, and it’s a great one. He’s going to take you on an adventure of a lifetime where no moment is wasted and everything is worth something not only in this life but in the next.
