More than a Good Bumper Sticker

I have seen my fair share of Christian bumper stickers. Crosses, Fish, “Jesus Saves”. I’ve even seen old vehicles completely painted in Bible verses, but sometimes I wonder if our faith is deeper than just a neat saying or a symbol.

When our faith can be plastered on our car, it’s easy to say, “I’m a Christian.” But how often do we share with people in the open? When was the last time that you spoke to someone openly about your faith? I know very few who do this on a regular basis. We don’t want to be accused of pressuring people. We don’t want to be accused of being “one of those people”. We don’t want to have to answer for the things that people will claim we believe and that we are. We don’t want to have to deal with the growing animosity against those who hold to the truths of scripture.

I will admit sometimes it would be easier to just not engage. It would be simpler to just keep things quiet. I know there are those who would attack me verbally and call me names rather than have a real conversation about God.  Jesus said, “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.” (Luke 10:16)

Jesus made it clear that we will come against people who will reject us because of him. But if our faith is deeper than a sweet saying or picture on our car, if it is WHO WE ARE, then we are not sharing a religion with them. We are sharing ourselves.

We are new creatures. We are sons and daughters of the LIVING GOD. We are citizens of heaven and the new kingdom. We are friends of God. We are His people and He is our God. So let your faith be worn on your sleeve, not just stuck on the back of your bumper.
