God in a Box

More
often than I care to admit I have been frustrated and confounded by a new God
given revelation because it did not fit into my preconceived notions of who God
was and how He worked. I either saw him
as a tyrant, sitting on his throne waiting to judge me for everything I had
ever done wrong, or a soft spoken hippie. It was God the Almighty with
lightning bolts of wrath, or sweet Jesus who was hugging people and saying in a
soft voice, “Please don’t fight.” Wow was I wrong. On both accounts. God is the
most amazing person I have ever met.
Allow
me to demonstrate. I had a dream recently. Some might call it a prophetic
dream, and they would be right. I was sitting at a red light on a motorcycle,
waiting to go. As I started taking off I realized, I don’t know how to ride a
motorcycle. I started to crash, but I stopped in the middle of my dream and
said, “No, no, no. I’m not crashing. God I need help. Jesus will you come help
me ride this motorcycle?”
Guess
who showed up? That’s right, Jesus, in jeans, riding boots, and a black leather
jacket. He got on behind me and showed me how to start it, and balance, and
turn.
That
was an AWESOME dream!
You
might ask, “Okay, you had a dream about God, but is He really like that?”
YES!
He is fantastic and fun and kind. I’ve seen visions of my Lord, which have left
me stunned and in awe of Him. There is no part of Him that is weak. It doesn’t
exist. The kind of love that Jesus talks about is not what so many people think
of as love. If you have ever truly loved someone, you would know that it is not
always easy. True love is not for the faint of heart. God is creative and kind,
but He is not someone that anyone would be ashamed of, ever. He is the
definition of every great and good masculine trait.
On
the other hand, He is not a mindless brute who just wants to watch everyone
burn. He is gracious. What makes Him, Him, is that He gets mad just like us,
but He is always in control of it. So many times He had a plan for
things, a good plan, but He let us choose. We picked something else and made a
mess of things, and He was still willing to clean up our mess!
I
remember one morning I came down and saw that my four year old and two year old
had gotten into the baking supplies. I stopped at the bottom of the steps and saw
two sets of little white powder footprints. Those footprints led through a
powdered sugar covered kitchen. I told them if they made the mess, they were
going to have to try and clean it up. Needless to say, they couldn’t. After
several minutes of trying to sweep it up, I told them that I would fix it. I
explained to them that that was what Jesus did for us. We made a mess that we
couldn’t clean up, and He did it for us. In that moment, I learned something from
my kids. God loves me and understands that I can’t always fix what I did, but He
can.
When
God found me I was suicidal, and I was thinking of leaving my husband and my
children. I didn’t want to do what God wanted. I just wanted to survive that
day. I couldn’t take care of myself, let alone two small children. I had made a
complete mess of things, and no one trusted me to keep myself alive. My husband
went to work every day, wondering if I would be alive when he got back. Guys,
it was bad, but when I went to God, He scooped up the mess that I was and held
me through healing. He healed my pain, calmed my rage, and gave me peace.
Guys,
let Him out! Let God show you how amazing He really is. When you learn about
Him, you learn about yourself. (That’s a different topic.) He is everything we
have ever hoped for and more. The angels sing His praise, not because that’s
what they are supposed to do, but because He is just that cool. That’s right.
He is. Don’t let false teaching put chains on your view of Him. He is bigger
than the religious leaders. Those who called for Jesus’ crucifixion knew the
scriptures better than anyone, but they didn’t recognize Him. He was bigger
than their view. In the end, He will be revealed for who He truly is. All will
bow. But don’t wait until He walks the earth as King to try to get close to
Him. Get to know Him now so that you might be able to walk beside Him as
brothers and sisters sharing in His inheritance. (Colossians 3:24)
